Location on L1-135 A

The history of warabi mochi is very old. It is said that Emperor Daigo loved it, so it is believed to have existed since the Heian period. The main ingredient, warabi flour, which also gives the sweet its name, was very expensive. Therefore, it is said that warabi mochi was a confection eaten by people of high status. Warabi mochi evolved into its modern form during the Kamakura period. This transformation was influenced by the culture of dim sum brought over from China along with Zen Buddhism and by the practices of the tea ceremony.
